Protecting Waterways in an Era of Climate Change: Atlas-SSI’s Expanding Role

In an era when climate change is reshaping our world with more powerful and frequent storms, droughts, and flooding events, Atlas-SSI has emerged as a crucial first-line defender in protecting public health and environmental integrity. By removing plastic debris from stormwater surges, safeguarding aquatic ecosystems, and protecting waterways, Atlas-SSI plays a pivotal role in mitigating the environmental impacts of these extreme weather events.

As the company has evolved, it has positioned itself as a leading provider of comprehensive water intake and management solutions. Today, Atlas-SSI offers an extensive range of high-quality products and full lifecycle services, including design, maintenance, rebuild, and replacement capabilities. This growth has solidified Atlas-SSI as a trusted single source of responsibility, providing the comprehensive solutions necessary to support critical infrastructure across industrial, municipal, and commercial sectors that depend on large volumes of water.

Over the past two years, Atlas-SSI has made four strategic acquisitions, most recently adding Golden Harvest, a premier provider of aluminum and stainless-steel water control gates, to its portfolio. With this acquisition, the company’s extensive solutions now include water intake screens, trash rakes, headworks, stormwater tanks, baffles, debris and sargassum barriers, and more.  Importantly, these offerings meet the Build America, Buy America standards for domestic content and supply chains, reinforcing our commitment to American-made quality and production.

“Many of our customers are facing unprecedented challenges in ensuring both the quality and quantity of their water supply. What was once considered ‘once-in-a-hundred-year’ storm events are now occurring with alarming frequency. Atlas-SSI is rapidly evolving to empower our customers to tackle these challenges head-on. It’s no longer enough to focus on just one aspect of water intake and management; our portfolio is expanding to provide the most comprehensive range of tools to manage risk effectively,” said Paul Lewis, CEO of Atlas-SSI. “Our entire team is deeply committed to sustainable water management and environmental responsibility. Together, we will continue to lead in championing sustainable infrastructure and environmental protection, delivering greater value to our customers and the communities in which we operate.”

At Atlas-SSI, our commitment to building a better world is at the heart of everything we do. Our solutions have already played a pivotal role in reducing over 6,000 tons of CO2 emissions, restoring natural ecosystems by sponsoring the planting of more than 17,000 trees, safeguarding aquatic habitats with 316(b) fish-friendly screens, and clearing debris from rivers following storm events.
