OceanSight Expands Technology Platform with Acquisition of Sound Metrics

March 9, 2026 — OceanSight today announced the acquisition of Sound Metrics, a leading developer and manufacturer of high-resolution acoustic imaging sonar systems used in underwater inspection, monitoring, and security applications. The addition of Sound Metrics strengthens OceanSight’s platform of ocean technology companies and enhances its ability to deliver advanced sensing and imaging solutions for complex underwater environments.

OceanSight, unveiled by XPV Water Partners earlier this month, is building a differentiated platform focused on technologies that enable greater understanding and visibility beneath the ocean surface. The platform includes Ocean Floor Geophysics, a provider of subsea geophysical survey and inspection solutions, and Neptune Sonar Limited, a developer of high-performance sonar technologies. The acquisition of Sound Metrics adds industry-leading acoustic imaging capabilities to the portfolio, further expanding the platform’s ability to serve customers across offshore energy, maritime security, infrastructure inspection, environmental monitoring, and ocean research.

Founded in 2002 and headquartered in Bellevue, Washington, Sound Metrics designs and manufactures advanced imaging sonar systems that produce detailed, video-like acoustic images in environments where optical cameras cannot operate, including dark or highly turbid water. The company’s ARIS sonar platforms are widely used by government agencies, infrastructure operators, research institutions, and commercial organizations worldwide.

“Sound Metrics brings highly differentiated technology and a strong reputation for innovation in underwater imaging,” said Mike Read, Chief Executive Officer of OceanSight. “Together with Ocean Floor Geophysics and Neptune Sonar, Sound Metrics strengthens OceanSight’s ability to provide a comprehensive suite of subsea sensing and imaging solutions that help customers better understand and operate in challenging underwater environments.”

“Joining OceanSight provides an exciting opportunity to expand the reach and impact of our technology,” said Joe Burch, President of Sound Metrics. “The complementary capabilities across the OceanSight platform create significant opportunities for collaboration and innovation as we continue advancing solutions for underwater visibility and monitoring.”

Following the acquisition, Sound Metrics will continue to operate from its Bellevue, Washington headquarters while collaborating with other companies across the OceanSight platform.
