Mobiltex Expands Offerings and Expertise in Water Management

In the race to build resilient systems, water and wastewater utilities worldwide are struggling.

Utilities provide critical services, but, at the same time they face a host of challenges, says Alain Lalonde, Vice President, Value Stream, Mobiltex. “Utilities have limited financial resources, and many have significant gaps in their workforce. Furthermore, they might not know the true state of their underground assets, which makes it a challenge to decide how and when to spend on repairs and maintenance to protect their systems – and public health.”

XPV Water Partners company Mobiltex, a leader in corrosion monitoring, data management, and IoT solutions, recently announced the acquisition of GCRTech, a UK-based manufacturer that offers technology solutions that reduce leakage, identify surges that increase stress on pipes, and optimize resources.

The acquisition expands Mobiltex’s product offerings and expertise in the water management sector, as GCRTech has more than 40 years of experience designing and developing innovative field solutions for water networks and leakage control.

A natural fit

The company is a natural fit for Mobiltex, explains Lalonde. “GCRTech revolutionized the data logger industry with new architecture, enabling loggers to record more detailed data at shorter intervals. This development has allowed customers to measure leakage levels and detect pressure surges without specialized equipment.”

He adds that GCRTech’s commitment to continuous improvement has resulted in practical and unique technologies for effective water management, and that the two companies enjoy a trusted reputation in their respective markets.

The acquisition also brings several advantages to GCRTech, such as integration with Mobiltex’s cloud-based architecture, enhanced production capabilities, expanded market reach, and collaboration for innovative solutions in pipe degradation assessment. GCRTech will bring its expertise and product range under the Mobiltex umbrella, focusing on reducing non-revenue water loss and pipeline leakage.

Working together to help utilities manage water resources

The two companies will benefit from each other’s strengths, says Lalonde. “As part of our partnership, Mobiltex’s cloud-based architecture will be integrated with GCRTech’s solutions, enabling remote management of IoT devices and expanding services for water utilities worldwide.” Additionally, Mobiltex will bring its advanced tooling and manufacturing processes, enabling the delivery of affordable, high-quality instruments to water suppliers across North America and the rest of the world.

Together, the companies will tap into the growing demand for intelligent solutions to optimize water management programs and reach new markets and customers. The future also holds opportunity for new products and services. “Our combined expertise will lead to the development of innovative solutions to assess pipe degradation potential, helping water utilities optimize resources, reduce leakage, and effectively manage critical water networks,” Lalonde says.

“As the industry continues to face challenges related to aging infrastructure, water scarcity, and the need for sustainability, we’re planning to create meaningful solutions,” he adds.  “We’re looking forward to an exciting future together.”
